In this podcast we talk to Sheri Munsell, owner of the Facebook group Legit Work From Home (62,000+ members) about how to successfully find a work from home opportunity.

As the world has been turned upside down with the Coronavirus spreading throughout the world, and business are shutting their doors until the spread of the virus is under control, millions of people are finding themselves out of a job or with reduced hours. Whether you’re trying to find another source of income to make ends meet or interested in making some additional money while working from home, here are a few ways you can do that.

Fiverr

With Fiverr you can put your talents to work as a freelancer. Their main categories include Graphics & Design, Digital Marketing, Programming & Tech, Business and more. Clients can connect with you and book your services right on the website and will also handle payments. Visit Fiverr

UpWork

If you’re looking to take on contract assignments in Web/Mobile development, design, marketing, writing or one of their 80 other categories, UpWork can help you build a clientele. You can connect with clients from across the country and work from home. You can search through the website for posted assignments and apply for any that are of interest. Visit UpWork

FlexJobs

FlexJobs specializes in all jobs that offer flexibility whether it’s working from home, flexible hours, full-time, part-time and so on. You can search their open job postings for free but to apply you will need a paid membership. Whereas Fiverr and UpWork are contract based and you could potentially start making money within hours, FlexJobs focus on more traditional jobs in all kinds of areas, but with the focus being on jobs that offer different kinds of flexibility. You can also search the other job boards for temporary positions, and if you find one that you’re interested in, mention that you’re interested in working from home. Even if it doesn’t specifically mention it in the job description doesn’t mean the employer won’t be open to it if you are uniquely qualified for the role.  Visit FlexJobs

Craigslist

If you have any other abilities whether it’s tutoring other language, or other school topics, bookkeeping, doing yard work, electrical work and so on, place an ad on CraigsList, or browse through the help needed ads. There are also other sites such as Home Advisor, Nextdoor Neighborhood and even Facebook Groups where you can find contract work. Or if you’ve hoarded stuff over the years that you’ve been meaning to get rid of, now would be a good time to dust it off and put up for sale to make a few extra bucks.  Visit Craisglist

Work with a recruiter

Connect with a recruiter in your career field. They’re in constant communication with hiring managers and will know of available or potential upcoming opportunities that you may qualify for. Review your resume to make sure it is up to date and re-submit it to any staffing agencies you’re interested in working with and let them know you’re available for opportunities.

Social Networks

Let your professional network know that you’re available to take on some contract or part-time work from home, and what your area of expertise is. Make sure your LinkedIn profile is up-to-date and follow all the other best practices to optimize all the sections of your profile. With a lot of people spending less time at the office and more time at home, this is an opportune time to re-connect with former co-workers and others in your professional network.
