Resume Best Practices for 2022

Podcast: Resume Best Practices for 2022 – iMPact Job Talk

So much about the workforce has changed in the past couple of years with jobs going remote, an all-digital hiring process. On this episode of Job Talk we have a conversation with iMPact Owner, Matt Peal and Account Manager/Recruiter Mark Herman about resume best practices and advice for 2022. Topics discussed include:

  • How long should a resume be in 2022?
    • Do employers prefer 1 or 2 page resumes, and are there situations where a longer resume is recommended?
  • Are custom objectives still recommended?
    • What should you include on the top of your resume? Is a short objective or career summary appropriate?
  • How should a resume be formatted?
    • What are some ways you can use formatting to make your resume stand out – and can too much formatting be viewed as a negative?
  • Do employers prefer reverse chronological order or a functional resume?
    • Which format should you use, and when?
  • Items hiring managers/recruiters are looking for that weren’t as common a few years ago?
    • If you haven’t applied for jobs in a few years, are there items hiring managers and recruiters expect to see on your resume now that weren’t expected a few years ago?
  • What’s the ideal format for a resume? (PDF, Word, LinkedIn, other?
  • Plain white page or use a template with different colors/blocks to highlight skills?
  • How to address employment gaps, especially if it’s due to a Covid layoff?
    • If you’ve been laid off, or taken time off of work due to Covid or other reasons, when and how should you address those employment gaps on your resume or during the inerview process?
  • Other resume changes or trends for the upcoming year?
