25 Questions to Ask in an Interview

Asking questions in an interview may not seem like a big deal, but they are. No matter what you say in the interview, or how great your credentials are, the candidate which leaves the best impression is the one remembered most.

When the interviewer asks, “do you have any questions for me?” This is the time when you can leave them feeling like you are someone who they NEED to add to their company. Here are 25 questions that you can ask that will leave a lasting impression.

Questions that can clarify the role:

  1. What does a typical day look like?
  2. What are the biggest challenges in this role?
    1. What is the toughest time of (day, week, month or year) for this candidate?
  3. What is performance based on?
  4. How many hours are typically worked for a person to be successful?

Questions that may remove doubts you are having about where you may stand:

  1. What are skills and experiences you are looking for in the ideal candidate?
  2. What attributes does someone need to be successful in this position?
  3. What types of skills is the team looking for in the candidate?
  4. Do you have any concerns about my background?

Questions you may ask to bring up any “Red Flags”:

  1. What is the company culture like?
  2. What type of personality fits best?
  3. Tell me about the team
  4. Why is this positon open? New role? Replacement?
  5. How long does someone typically stay in this role?

Point of View on the Company

  1. Where do you see the company in the next few years?
  2. How is feedback given to employees?
  3. Are regular performance reports done? What is the time frame? (Annual, Quarterly, After 90 days)
  4. Are there opportunities for career advancement after you prove yourself?
  5. Are there training programs available?

Build a relationship with the interviewer. What has THEIR experience been?

  1. How long have you been with the company?
  2. What did you do before?
  3. Was it a good transition?
  4. What made you make the move to this this company?
  5. What is your favorite part of your job?

Wrap Up

  1. What are the next steps in the interview process?
  2. Anything else I can provide that would be helpful?
