Why You Should Include These Details on Your Resume

Why You Should Provide These Details on Your Resume

Help ME, help YOU !!!

Sorry upfront, this is a bit of a rant…

Not sure what to make of a recent trend I’ve experienced. A trend means it’s happening more and more, not just a one-off.

This is where a Candidate applies to an open position, we interview them to make sure it’s a good match for them, they claim to have many of the required skills, but their Resume just doesn’t really show it, or shows very little of it.

In talking with the Candidate, they do appear to know the topic well and when asked to put just a little more detail into the resume or to just send us an update that speaks to what they’ve done with that skill — they say they’re really interested in the role and they’ll get right on putting something together for us.

Then … nothing shows up …

We remind the Candidate that in order to get them an interview, we really need to see those details.

Then … nothing shows up …

Would make sense to me if the Candidate then went off the market due to another role they were considering not requiring those particular skills, but that really hasn’t been the case.

Eventually, the Candidate checks back in, we remind them that we still don’t have the details they promised us.

Then … (you already guessed it) nothing shows up …

Since this isn’t a case of where they don’t really know the topic, which can happen when someone sprinkles just a few too many buzzwords into their resume, it appears as though there’s just no follow through.

We don’t ask for these details for our own benefit, we ask for them to improve the likelihood of a Candidate eventually getting offered a new job they’re interested in. We always explain the need for this information and generally get an agreement that — the assignment was understood, but in the end … nothing shows up …

When an Agency is involved in filling a position, our Clients – the Employer – does expect to see relevant skills and experience in the resumes we send them.

If the details are in there, it —

1. Boosts your odds in getting an interview

2. Can help guide the interview related to focusing on skills you have that match the open position

3. Refreshes your own memory of what you’ve done with required skills and hence allows you to be more confident in the interview

4. Helps the Employer see the match on paper, and reinforces the match when they talk to you about what you’ve done there

If the resume is sent in without those details —

1. The HR internal Recruiter just doesn’t request an interview since they assume limited details implies limited experience, with a topic you may actually know well

2. Confuses a Hiring Manager (if they even get to see your Resume) as to how much you really do know about a topic — if its NOT documented

3. Someone else gets YOUR job

So, please — help ME, help YOU… send in the follow-up details you committed to.
