In December 2020 we sent a salary survey to our candidates to gauge the current salary situation and what employees and job seekers are planning for 2021. This survey is intended to provide you and hiring companies in the area an ‘overview’ of current salaries and current hiring trends within your field/industry and to provide an overview of hiring in 2021 in hopes we all have a better picture.
A few key findings:
- We asked how About 25% of our respondents are currently not working. As can be expected, being that we are a staffing agency, this number is higher than the average national unemployment rate. We do also work with a large pool of candidates who are currently working, either full-time, part-time or contract. From an employer standpoint, one of the benefits of working with iMPact is that we are able to tap into a large pool of candidates who are unemployed and immediately available for new opportunities, as well as candidates who are currently working, but open to exploring new opportunities.
- After a year that’s brought about a lot of turbulence and changes to the job market, our survey shows that a large % are currently applying for jobs, with over 70% saying that they have applied for at least 1-10 jobs in the past 90 days.
- An even stronger indicator that a lot of people are actively seeking new job opportunities is that 60% of people currently working full-time have been applied for at least 1-10 jobs in the past 90 days. With a lot of top talent open to new opportunities in 2021, this is an area where iMPact is positioned to help connect employers with that talent for any positions that will be opening up as the economy picks back up and projects that have been put on hold during Covid are re-activated again.
- Roughly 75% are explicitly saying that they are actively looking or at least open to hearing about new opportunities. This confirms again the data as to what will be happening in the job market in 2021.
- Aside from salary being the obvious #1 answer, other job satisfaction answers that stood out are: company culture, benefits and work from home flexibility and advancement opportunities. Several people also responded, “work-life-balance” as a response to “other”. Taken as a whole, scheduling & work from home flexibility could go together as work-life-balance, and as a combined answer it would be a close 2nd to salary. For companies looking to make changes and improvements to help retain their top talent in 2021, this would be an important area to look at.
- 25% of respondents have not worked with a staffing agency before. From an employer perspective, that’s a large pool of candidates that we are able to connect with that are currently not working with any staffing agency, including many of them who are currently working full-time.
- 20.7% of respondents said they are in a hiring capacity. And as we can see on these two charts, almost 25% of them are planning to hire in 2021, with over 10% of them saying they are planning to hire >9 employees, and around 10% of them saying they are planning to hire for contract work as well. Around half of them not sure yet what their hiring needs will look like.
- In summary, there are a large number of currently working employees currently looking, or planning to look for new opportunities. And we’re also seeing a good amount of hiring managers saying they are planning to be doing some hiring in 2021. Whether someone is a job seeker looking for new opportunities or career change, or an employer anticipating hiring needs (full-time, contract, part-time), iMPact can help connect qualified candidates with top job opportunities.
