Background:
Our client is a West Michigan manufacturer specializing in custom enclosure solutions, with strategic road maps, an engaged culture, and a mission of continued growth. They contacted us as their trusted partner to help them in their search for a General Manager.
Challenge:
A confidential GM search matching the values of our client authentically, who would by their nature continue the growth trajectory and assume the role of President upon the retirement of the incumbent.
- Maintain confidentiality and client efficiency to protect succession planning details and reduce the burden on our client’s bandwidth.
- Align to core values: We needed to identify potential candidates based on their authentic desire to:
- Be a servant leader.
- Naturally driven.
- Innovative yet methodical
- History of success and commitment.
- Part of the community.
Solution:
- We staged a multi-layered process that maintained confidentiality until the starting gate contained 3+ candidates that aligned with predefined mission objectives.
- We vetted our candidates to align with core values by Identifying candidates who naturally put others first, showed an interest in learning more, and became actionable on deliverables during our internal portion of the interview process.
- Our candidates were pre-screened before engagement on background details like tenure, frequency of applications, history of recruitment interactions, reason for interest, and status of their resume to understand their perspective of success and commitment.
- We excluded candidates external to West Michigan for the first 3 months of our search and met face to face to understand their level of thought, effort, and intentionalism towards being part of the community.
Results:
“I am the President of a West Michigan-based manufacturing company. During strategic planning late last year, it became abundantly apparent that we needed a very gifted General Manager to help the team execute our strategic plan as well as be able to put themselves in an excellent position to replace me as I plan my retirement. There was only one organization I would consider helping us with this: Doug & Kyle of iMPact Business Group. I have had 10 plus years’ experience working with this team and felt very comfortable that they would listen generously to my unique requirements and that they would treat this project not as just another transaction, but to partner with me, to not only maintain our culture but to provide solutions that would improve upon it. I am very happy to say, they delivered on my requirements and found an individual that is perfect for our business needs. iMPact Business Group did what we could not do ourselves, a true partnership.”
